Immigration Success Story
We want to congratulate Sheiko Bashir, who recently became a United States citizen! His dedication and Daniel Gadissa’s guidance through the application process paid off. Sheiko came to the U.S. in 2003 after fleeing Ethiopia’s political instability. Though not as challenging as his escape as a refugee, his path to becoming a U.S. citizen was difficult. It started early in 2011, when he first met Daniel. After failing the citizenship test two times, Sheiko tried a new approach to studying by listening to U.S. history cassette tapes in the car. Sheiko’s determination was rewarded, and after taking the test for a third time, he succeeded. He proudly became a U.S. citizen and voted in November for the first time.
In October, our office launched our first citizenship class that teaches U.S. history and test taking strategies. We hope our 16 students currently in the class will all become U.S. citizens early next year!
